Rimmel London Scandaleyes Rockin’ Curves Mascara


  • Moisture Renew Lipstick: I received the Nude Delight share and it goes really well with my skin tone, so I love it! The lipstick does dry, so the color lasts, however I still need to use chapstick to coat my lips for some moisture. The lipstick has a light fragrance and also comes in a variety of colors.
  • There is also a clear lip liner that is recommended to use with the Moisture Renew lipsticks, which did help prevent feathering that sometimes happens with lipstick application.
  • I also received the Scandaleyes Rockin’ Curves Mascara, which has an S shaped wand to help move along the contours of your eyelashes with one sweep.  I like that it didn’t clump and that it gave me darker and fuller lashes! Love all the products!

Puffs SoftPack


The Puffs Softpack has a plastic cover, so its easy to grab the last tissue when you run out! It is a must for allergies and colds since the tissues are gentle yet durable. Must for winter!
Jergens Ultra Healing Extra Dry Skin Moisturizer


Jergens Ultra Healing Lotion leaves my skin feeling very hydrated and lightly fragranced.  It is a must to carry in your handbag if you get a travel version!
resource Natural Spring Water


Resource Spring Water is 100% natural spring water that contains naturally occurring electrolytes, which makes for a refreshing taste! Did you know the water comes in a bottle make from 50% recycled plastic? I usually bring my own reusable bottle, but I would use this brand for emergency source of water!
 Hair Food Moisture Hair Mask


I use this product on my hair after working out at the gym 2-3 times a week.  During the fall/winter seasons, my fine hair tends to dry out, so I really like that this Hair Food actually keeps my hair soft and silky even after the first use! #HairFood
 Swiss Miss Simply Cocoa


The Swiss Miss Simply Cocoa has just five ingredients: sugar, cocoa, nonfat milk, salt and natural flavors.  This tastes great with hot water or hot milk and dissolves easily for a smooth, rich taste. Totally recommend with marshmallows, just wish it came in a can with multiple servings I could scoop out.

What are Hemp Hearts?

At the top part of the hemp plant you will find the hard hemp seed. This small seed “seeds” nutritiously delicious products like Hemp Hearts, hemp protein powder, and hemp oil. At the ‘heart’ of all our hemp foods is the Hemp Heart (aka raw shelled hemp seed). The flavor is very light and just as advertised:

Getting Creative in the Kitchen with Hemp Hearts

This past weekend, I decided to create a new recipe involving Hemp Hearts and let’s just say it turned out great! Not only did it smell amazing while in the oven (salivating for it to cool to cut and eat), but tasted delish!


  • 3 tsp Manitoba Harvest Hemp Hearts
  • 1 package blueberry muffin mix (follow directions on the box, mine are below)
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1 egg
  • 3 tsp ground flax meal
  • greased loaf pan or muffin tins

Combine wet ingredients (milk and egg), then add the dry ingredients (hemp hearts, muffin mix and flax meal), and mix together until combined. The dough should be a bit lumpy. Pour into loaf pan or muffin tins and cook according to directions on the box (may vary depending on mix). Once done baking (check with toothpick to make sure it comes out clean), let it cool for 20min, then cut and enjoy!

Mermaid Series Sprint Duathlon 2014

Ever since I did this race in 2013 with my beach cruiser, I’ve wanted to do this race again with a real road bike! So, a couple weekends ago I did 🙂 Read to find out how this race cation went!

photo 1This year not only did I have a road bike to race with, but a friend as well! We made a racecation out of it, staying in a local hotel in Capitola.  Since I like to “race in style”, instead of having a stylish beach cruiser to ride, I decided to race in full blown sparkle…head to toe! I did wear triathlon shorts and an exercise tank underneath though to reduce the possibility of chafing 🙂

And since this is a Mermaid Series, I of course decided to wear a sparkly outfit that resembled Ariel! My friend said I’ve done too many Disney races….but hey, at least I got lots of compliments during the race!!! I dubbed myself the official mermaid motivator, since many people said the sparkles made them smile (which is what I was hoping for!).

Packet Pick-up and Transition Set-up

This year, my friend and I picked up packets the day before at Whole Foods, which was very quick and easy. Last year I picked my packet up before the race, which was also very speedy 🙂 The next morning, we left the hotel around 6:30 and walked our stuff to the transition zone to set up. This year they had fewer areas labeled for each age group, so there was more freedom in where we could park our bikes.

We then headed back to the hotel so I could finish getting ready (aka fully blinged out) and to avoid standing in the cold 🙂 This was a nice treat compared to last year since I had to just wait.  About 1hr before the race, we went to the start line to warm up and take pics 🙂

1.5mi Run + T1 Time: 16:10

My friend and I planned to start together, but I told her to go for it since I was just going to go at my pace and have fun in my sparkly outfit 🙂 The first quarter mile was pretty much straight up hill, getting to the top, turning around to go back down the hill, running along the beach, up another hill, and into the transition zone.  I went a bit faster than my long distance pace since I didn’t want to push it too much before the bike portion. I read that the course had changed and that there would be a hill about half way through. Once I got to the transition zone, I spun my number around, swapped my running shoes for my bike shoes, put on my helmet and gloves and was off running to exit the transition zone to mount my bike.

So the majority of the bike course was fairly straightforward, light hills, some tight turns, but it seemed that the “hill” wouldn’t be too hard. Well THAT was a bad assumption because even on the lowest gear, I went SO SLOW up the hill!! Plus the hill was in the shade from redwoods on both sides and on a not well maintained road (reminded me of my Tri for Fun Series Races, only up a huge hill).  And once I got to the top for the turnaround, I went fast, but I had to avoid eating asphalt since I could have easily hit a road crack wrong or an unseen road hazard on the shaded road.  Scary!!!!! It was a morale killer on the way back since I felt like I started out so strong and then fell short on the hill.  Even if I had done more biking, I have NO access to hills, so I would have still had a hard time either way. Once I got to the transition zone, I transferred back to my run gear to finish the race.

2.5mi run to the finish. Time: 25:45

 The run is pretty much the same as the first leg, only the turnaround is farther along Cliff Drive.  My legs were fatiguing after running up the hill and near the top I saw my friend heading back already! I weakly cheered her on since I was already pooped and still had like another 1.5mi to go. Slowly but surely I made my way around the course, across the sand and through the finisher’s chute! After the race, we got some delicious food provided by Whole Foods: yogurt, granola, fruit, banana bread and coconut water.  They also offered pancakes, but I wasn’t hungry enough to eat those on top of the huge yogurt container.

Post Race Fun

After we ate Whole Foods food, foam rolled (oh yea there was a foam rolling and The Stick station at the post race expo!), and showered, we walked to a nearby cafe to get some lunch.  Then it was off to the spa to have some beauty treatments! My friend got a massage and a facial, I just got a facial, but we both got the special tea service after both of us finished.

The next morning, we headed off to Monterey to visit the Monterey Bay Aquarium (courtesy of some free tickets I got!). We loved checking out all the creatures under the sea (it really floats my marine bio boat!), especially the tentacles exhibit! If you get the chance to go, you should!!!

Santa Monica Active Nation Day Event

ActiveNationDay1A series of convenient events allowed me to attend the Santa Monica Lorna Jane Active Nation Day event (normally I’m in Nor Cal), so I made sure to take advantage of the awesome opportunity!

Mats were set up in an open area of the Santa Monica mall and we got to have a free class with Christine Bullock! She was very cute, energetic and seemed very exited to be leading an Active Nation Day 45 min workout for Lorna Jane sporty sisters 🙂 It was a combo of Turbo Kick, dance, pilates, yoga and represents a blend of what her workouts on her new Evolution20 dvd. Oh yeah and we did lots of #LJMOVE love during the entire workout 🙂

Then after the workout concluded, we got to check out the other sponsors of the event! Thank you for all the freebies, it was wonderful to try them out!

  • Larabar handed out snack sized bars (and lanyards),
  • Zico gave us refreshing Coconut Water,
  • Philosophie prepped some protein balls for us to taste,
  • Cafe Ugo let us sip some of their delicious (and a bit strong) coffee,

Pre-race & Packet Pick-up

A friend was visiting me in Sac and she was kind enough to wake up at 6:30 to drive with me down to the race! We left just after 6:45 and arrived around 7:20. The start/finish area was at a high school, so there was plenty of parking.  After we parked, I went to the bib/shirt pick up area, which went pretty fast, except the lady called me Chris…kinda weird even though my bib has my correct name printed on the back. In the last 20 min to kill before the race start, I applied sunscreen, dropped my bag off at my car and waited in line 15min to use one of the 10 port-a-potties for the 400 some people at the race.  I’m glad I got in line around 7:45 because I literally had a couple min to spare after leaving the port-a-potty to go to the start line and begin the run.  Many runners were concerned they would have to start late because of the enormous bathroom line…


The Race

I started out slow since I was just over being sick with a cold a few days prior (which prevented running/working out for 10 days), but after the first couple miles I started to hit a groove and knew it would be a good race!

The weather was overcast and slightly chilly from the wind, so I never felt overheated.  We had a water station every 2 miles, had some “ghosts” hanging around the course (only one of them was super excited and cheering us on constantly), and 80s music playing. The course was flat, which was nice, but it wasn’t the most scenic route (lots of car dealerships we ran by and empty dirt fields).  There were lots of cops around each corner we turned to keep us safe from traffic.

Many of the runners wore bright clothing of some sort, a few in tutus, leotards, full on exercise video attire and side pony tails. Not like Disney races, but still fun for a local race!

I texted my friend every couple miles to let her know where I was in the course and was surprised to see her just before the finish line! She ran by me to pass me to meet me after the finish and I didn’t try to run any faster to catch her since I did not have fresh legs like she did.  It was nice having a cheering buddy 🙂

After I met up with my friend again, I collected my medal, a piece of banana and a few free things from the booths. Then I headed to the car to stretch and take some post race photos! Overall I’m glad I paid $15 to get the medal and the upgraded technical shirt (cute!) since it was a fun local race! I used my $30 voucher from volunteering for the MOO-nlight Half Marathon) to get a big discount!
